Work

Maarten Vanden Eynde: "Since 2003 I am working with Genetology (The Science of First Things) and try to define this non-existing opposition of the existing Eschatology (The Science of Last Things). My work is situated exactly on the borderline between the past and the future."

Several ancient menhirs made from bricks were buried underground in what looks like a circle. The bricks are apparently made from local clay and are just partly baked. It is not clear why the menhirs were buried or even why they were placed in a circle, but looking at other sites all over the world where stone circles were discovered dating from before the Brick Era, they had a similar ritualistic function. Some menhirs (probably five) were dug up before this recent discovery and used in the construction of houses in the neighbourhood. Because of the seemingly close connection to the brick factory nearby the menhirs will be exhibited next to the factory and will remain in Herzele until further notice.
